Anjali Bhagwat shot 399 but missed a medal in Women's 10m Air Rifle following a 8.3 on her 9th shot in the finals of the ISSF World Cup in Munich on Wednesday.

The Sydney Olympics finalist Anjali, shot a series of 100, 100, 100 and 99 to miss the world record score only by a point.

With the reigning World champion Yi Siling of China on 400 and five others on 399, it was a tough fight for the medals, but Anjali had the bronze in her grasp after the eighth shot despite having started the finals with a 9.8. However, the 8.3 pulled her down and she eventually finished seventh.

The young Mampi Das had shot 398 (100,99,100,99), and had to endure a shoot-off with three others in the fight for the last spot in the final, but she eventually missed it by 0.2 points despite shooting 51.9. She finished 9th.

The third Indian in the event, Ayonika Paul also shot a good score of 396 (100,99,97,100) but could opnly manage a 30th place finish in a strong field of 111 shooters.

Vijay Kumar shoots silver medal in 25m Rapid Fire Pistol at London Olympics! India now have 2 medals at the 2012 London Olympics.
However, in the Rapid Fire event, en route to his total score of 585, fourth-placed Kumar became the second shooter to break the previous Olympic record of 583 during the second stage of qualification.

More than a hundred clay birds flung and most blown to bits in mid air. This is Canada's ace shotgun shooter Susan Nattrass on the range, a 61-year-old sporting legend doing what comes naturally.

Susan Nattrass

Only the seven-time world champion is not quite sure what she's doing will be enough to qualify her for a seventh Olympics.

To date, the Shooting Federation of Canada has qualified just two of its members for the 2012 London Summer Games: Cory Niefer in men's air rifle, Dorothy Ludwig in women's air pistol.

Three women (Cynthia Meyer, Lindsay Boddez and Nattrass) are in the hunt for the women's trap event and the shooting body has asked for a quota spot from the International Shooting Sport Federation.

If Canada is given a spot, there may need to be a shoot-off with the winner getting an Olympic berth. It's not the ideal way to do things, but having been down this route before Nattrass is taking an even-handed approach.

Nattrass became the first woman shooter to compete against men in the Olympics at Montreal in 1976. Women didn't have their own Olympic shooting events until 1984.

Nattrass fought to have separate events, then fought to ensure women’s trap and skeet shooting remained in the Olympics.

Nattrass has also taught other women how to shoot, received the Order of Canada for her well-aimed achievements.

Nattrass’s love for shooting was honed by her father, Floyd, who competed for Canada at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. As kids, she and her two brothers were driven across Canada and throughout the United States in search of trap-shooting events. Dad competed; mom, Marie, served as coach. Even now, at 91, Marie Nattrass will come to Vancouver Gun Club in Richmond, B.C., sit in her daughter’s vehicle and correct what Susan is doing wrong
